Will Hurrell is tackled by Jon Welsh and Will Witty (Image: Mark Runnacles/Getty Images) Bath came out firing early in the second half. After putting together some penetrative attacks, James Wilson found debutant Cooper Vuna with a lovely backhanded offload. The former Worcester Warriors wing used his strength to hold off Alex Tait just long enough to touch the ball down in the left corner. Any hopes of a comeback were dashed in the 51st minute when openside Nili Latu threw a looping pass out to Goneva, who beat Freddie Burns, Kahn Fotuali’i and Matt Garvey far too easily before squeezing over in the corner.
Their handling, line speed, tackling, creativity and discipline were all way below par and the Falcons picked them off with ease. It only took four minutes for them to take the lead when Josh Matavesi burst onto an offload and sent Sinoti Sinoti over in the left corner. Toby Flood slipped a soft Ben Tapuai tackle for the second try before converting it himself. After Aled Brew had been sent to the sin-bin for a knee in the back of former Bath scrum-half Michael Young, Falcons struck again. A simple catch and drive was finished off by impressive hooker Kyle Cooper. Flood’s flawless kicking continued to make it 21-0 at the break.
He makes two clean breaks back to back. Meanwhile, Flood is named man of the match. There’s still life in the former England playmaker! 21:36PENALTY Falcons! Flood makes no mistake. Goneva fires over the gainline off the back of a scrum. It takes three Bath players to haul him down. The men in white end up with the ball but Brew has played it illegally on the ground. Flood punishes. Falcons 29 Bath 7, 75mins21:33Night summed upFalcons kick long and Burns eyes up a counter attack, but he drops the ball in the Bath 22m, much to the delight of the fans.

We just didn’t look intelligent, we didn’t look smart. I thought our basics really let us down tonight. 21:54The fans aren't happyThe fans aren’t happy at Kingston Park, and rightly so. They’re not much happier elsewhere either... 21:48IT'S ALL OVER! Bath well beatenThat’s it, game over. Bath were well beaten. Not for the first time they’ve followed up a good win with a howler. They weren’t even making mistakes under pressure, most of them were elementary, simple errors.
Skipper Matt Garvey has fluid on his knee. 23:37The new-look tableIn tonight’s other match, Saracens beat Sale Sharks 13-3, meaning the Premiership table now looks like this... 23:09A message for the fans... The DoR had a message for the travelling fans who braved the cold and came up for the defeat... I can only apologise for a really poor performance. They deserve better. Our fans are fantastic. They support this team really well. I thought we really let them down tonight, right across the board, even the ones at home because it was a pathetic performance. 23:03KEY EVENTThe thoughts of Todd Blackadder... Todd Blackadder has spoken to the press....
21:32Hurrell to flankerSkipper Garvey limps off (it doesn’t look serious). Lewis is on in his place as there are no forwards. Hurrell will finish the game as a flanker and Lewis is at 12. 21:29Williams is onWilliams comes on for Vuna, who has had a busy and decent debut. 21:27Superb skillAfter Burns is easily stripped of the ball in midfield, Flood sends Mermoz away down the left. He performs a lovely dummy switch followed by another dummy before slipping a tackle.
I’m just really disappointed. We didn’t do anything differently from the week before. I thought we started quite well but we were giving a penalty away every two minutes and we made 21 turnovers in the game. You’re just not going to win rugby like that. Todd Blackadder, Bath's director of rugby (Image: Harry Trump/Getty Images)On the defence, he said... I thought we did a good job in the contact very early on and then we were just standing there and not reacting.
Zach Mercer is tackled by Jon Welsh and Calum Green (Image: Mark Runnacles/Getty Images)21:16Double subPerenise comes on for Lahiff and Douglas comes on for Phillips. We’re into the final quarter. Falcons still lead 26-7. 21:15Coaches pulling hair out! The coaches are getting very frustrated. After Stooke knocks on a simple pass, Bath put together some decent attack. Tapuai sees a gap and goes for it, but he drops the ball in contact. It’s hard to find a player who hasn’t dropped it tonight. 21:10RustyAfter some ineffectual carrying Bath finally carve an opening when Burns finds Vuna out the back. He has two men outside him but goes for the long pass out to Brew, which bounces into touch. Simple hands could have been enough! Bayliss comes on for Grant.
